Will a Dental Flipper Make My Teeth Look Straight?
I don’t want to wear braces at 32 years of age. I would like to get some dental flippers that just go over your teeth. If I did that, would it make my teeth look straight?
A dental flipper is used as a temporary tooth replacement, as seen to the left. It doesn’t cover any teeth. So, I don’t think that is what you’re actually asking for. My best guess is you are thinking about Snap-on Smile. This is a device that does fit over your teeth. It can make your teeth look straight in some ways. If you have an overbite, it will make the overbite look bigger than it already does. This is because it snaps on top of your teeth, adding bulk to your smile.
Something to be aware of is the results are not going to be the stunning smile makeovers you see with something like porcelain veneers, nor will it last as long. I would expect it to last about three or four years, if well taken care of. You will get an adequate smile that will cover any chips or gaps. It is made of acrylic, not porcelain the way the more beautiful makeovers are.
A Permanent Fix without Braces
I know you said you didn’t want braces, but has your dentist mentioned Invisalign as an option to you? This uses clear aligners instead of metal wires and brackets. You can straighten your teeth without anyone even knowing. They tend to work much faster than traditional braces as well.
Additionally, they have another often unused benefit. The aligners can double as teeth whitening trays. They are custom-fitted to fit them to your new bite position. This means that you can straighten and whiten your teeth at the same time, giving you the equivalent of a mini smile makeover.
