I received an offer for a Premium Home Teeth Whitening Kit. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or just another scam. Would you mind checking it out and giving me your opinion?
I looked it over and there are good points and bad points. First, the good points, I think it will whiten your teeth. Its ingredient of 35% carbamide peroxide is good. It will be effective. Now the points that concern me. The tray is one. When a dentist gives you teeth whitening trays, they are custom-fitted to fit your bite. This has the advantage of keeping the teeth whitening securely on your teeth without the danger of saliva getting in and watering it down.
The trays provided with the kit will not fit as well. They will let saliva in and whitening gel out. When that happens it weakens the effectiveness of the gel as well as puts your gums at risk of irritation and other things. There are risks when this happens, especially when you are not under the care of a dentist during the procedure. One woman ended up needing a root canal treatment because of over-the-counter teeth whitening.
Finally, the cost. It wasn’t that much less than what you’d get with a dentist. In that case, why risk it?
You’re Better Off with Professional Teeth Whitening
In your place, I would just call around and price shop for a dentist who has affordable teeth whitening. Unlike some cosmetic procedures, it doesn’t require specific post-doctoral training the way a more advanced procedure like porcelain veneers would.
I’m glad you wrote. I’d much rather you do it the safest way than risk anything happening while trying to save a few bucks.
