Store Bought Filling Material
I have a filling that seems to have fallen out. I don’t know why. The big problem is, I’m on vacation. I don’t really want to stop my vacation to find a dentist and hold up my family from having fun. My question is, can this wait until I get back?
You don’t necessarily have to stop your vacation to see a dentist. However, I wouldn’t leave the tooth exposed. I’m going to suggest you go to a pharmacy which has a large medical supply section and purchase some dental filling material. They do sell some over-the-counter.
Bear in mind this is only meant to be a temporary solution. It should last you a few days and tide you over. Something to be aware of is that your filling fell out for a reason. There is very likely decay developing under there. Even if there’s not an infection, the tooth is vulnerable.
You need to keep aware of any developing infection. If you begin to feel pain in the area of the tooth, a pimple develops on your gums, or you develop a fever it is considered a dental emergency. You really will need to be seen right away. Please don’t put this off because you’re on vacation. People do still die from tooth infections. You don’t have to go home from vacation early, just see an emergency dentist in the area you’re in. At the least, they can provide you with the right antibiotics to hold the infection at bay until you can see your family dentist.
Just make sure as soon as you get home, you get this looked at. It may be as simple as your filling being old and needing to be replaced by a better filling. However, you could have developed more decay and it spread to the point you now need a dental crown.
Enjoy your vacation.
