Many families find it convenient to all go to the same dental practice. At all four of our Angel Dental Care locations, we welcome children and will provide them with expert care.
A Pediatric Dentist Children Love
At Angel Dental Care, we make treating children a high priority. In fact, we even have a pediatric dentist, Dr. Noora Khadier, on staff to ensure your child gets the highest quality of care. Dr. Khadier is kind and gentle. She puts children at ease right away and they flock to her. She’s also got a stern side so the children know she won’t be tricked or manipulated. It’s like having a modern-day Mary Poppins right in our office.
We make dentistry fun. It’s the experiences we have when we’re young that shape our views of going to the dentist. Because of that, we want to make your child’s dental visits something to look forward to. We’ll see them as young as one year old, sometimes earlier. It’s never really too soon if they’ve had a tooth erupt. We can have them come in and just get used to sitting in the chair, like a game.
We endeavor to make every aspect of their visit fun from the moment they walk in the door. There’s a play area in the reception room. We have toys, a treasure chest, and stickers. Our toothbrushes have cartoon characters and our topical anesthetic smells like bubble gum.
The Importance of Not Putting Off Pediatric Visits
Without realizing it, we parents can telegraph our own negative experiences onto our children. If we’ve had painful dental visits as a child, usually one of two things happens. First, we bring them to the dentist but tend to overprepare them. While the motives are pure, this plan tends to backfire because our children pick up on our anxiety and become unnecessarily nervous.
On the other hand, some parents will put off taking their children to the dentist. This is also well intentioned. They figure if they don’t have a dental problem why subject them to the dentist. Unfortunately, that usually results in their first dental visit being associated with the pain of a dental problem. If you take them to the dentist regularly, not only can they have a positive experience, but it’s likely the painful treatment can be avoided with proper maintenance.
Recommended Pediatric Dental Care
The saying “The best offense is a good defense”, is very applicable to dental care. Coming in for checkups and cleanings are a great way to keep the cavities away. But, those little molars can be tricky. They’re often pitted, which provides the perfect breeding ground for cavities. To protect their developing teeth and help prevent cavities, we recommend having sealants placed on their new molars.
Occasionally, children need a more involved procedure, which can be frightening both for the parents and child. We work with our local hospital to do hospitalized sedation. This way your child can be completely relaxed during their procedure. When they wake up, it’s all done. No pain. No fear.
